Recap by The Metal Wulf;

May as well get this out of the way first.

For the vast majority of the summer, I'd been getting my balls busted for having tickets to a certain show at CMAC in Canandaigua, that show being headliners Journey, along with Pat Benatar and Loverboy for openers.

Now, for those who grew up on this stuff back in the early to mid part of the Eighties, this was a pretty damned solid bill of music. My main reason for attending was, as stated many times, to see Pat Benatar. I've loved that little ladies' music ever since the first time I heard "Heartbreaker" in 8th or 9th grade, somewhere in there. On top of that, I've always had a healthy respect for Journey, and I never actually thought Loverboy sucked.

But, with the Onslaught being the uber-metal beast that it is, it was obviously not the type of show we'd normally promote, which is why some decided it was necessary to relentlessly rub my nose in the fact that I was attending this show.

Well, the show was last Wednesday night, and to be perfectly honest, it was a great night of music, front to back. I think the only complaint I can make about the evening is that perhaps Mike Reno needs to take a cue from Pat Benatar and Neil Gerardo, not to mention Journey members Neal Schon and Jonathon Cain, when it comes to aging gracefully. I just feel that maybe Mike was trying a little too hard to still be that "Eighties Rocker Dude", know what I mean?

Still, at least he wasn't trying to squeeze his ass into those stupid red leather pants...

So, yeah, I went, I had a good time, and I suffered the aftermath on the Onslaught willingly. Probably won't be the last time I attend a show that's going to make them groan...

Had David Henninger from Spater on hand, as he brought us up to speed on some recent developments. Most pressing, I would say, is the fact that they need a new lead guitar player. As a matter of fact, if you play and are interested in hooking up with these guys, it would be in your best interest to look Spater up on Facebook or at their main website, Spaterrock.com.

They are, in the meantime, continuing on as a 3-piece, and in fact will be playing at Drag'N Bash in Palymyra on September 1. This looks to be a great day of music, and there's also apparently going to be a Beer Pong tournament, so I'm thinking it's gonna be entertaining on many levels! Could be a good time, check it out if you've got nothin' else going on!

Jeffie was once again on hand, this time seemingly allergic to something, as he was sneezing so violently that Joe suggested the need for a snot shovel.

Yeah, pretty bad when ya need one of those...

Somehow the subject of suckers going into my posterior was brought up, which I can assure you has never happened. Still, it was kind of amusiing to have a selection of Tootsie Pops on hand that evening, and more than one of them being chocolate flavored. As a matter of fact, when a chocolate one was presented to Jeffie, he asked if it had been in my butt.

I responded, quite plainly, "Well, you know Jeffie, Grim Reaper DID have an old song called "Suck It And See"...totally inappropriate, I know, but about as awesome a comeback as I could possibly think of.

Jeffie had mentioned that he wanted to visit multiple universes in his "Re-Tardis" (think Dr. Who, only not quite so cool...), prompting a brief discussion of whether he'd be another Dr. Who...or maybe a Dr. What...actually, I think we all agreed that Dr. WHY was a bit more appropriate, in this case.

And I'm pretty sure Jeffie getting lost as he visited other dimensions would not necessarily be greeted with an abundance of sadness, to be perfectly honest...

Unlike Josh, who we're all gonna miss terribly if he ends up getting any of these jobs he keeps getting interviewed for. I mean, we'd all wish him the best, don't get me wrong, but we'd all be sad to lose him. I mean, who else falls over like a Fainting Goat when they're tickled?

Hell, can't even tickle Tim, as he gets a little violent...

As a matter of fact, in the closing portion of the evening, we were trying like mad to get Josh and Tim to have a Tickle Fight. Seriously, we wanted to see that battle!

But, when push came to shove, Tim kept running off and hiding in one of two adjoining rooms. This led to me trying to lure Tim out by singing cheesy 80's hair metal songs. Cases in point would be tracks from Giuffria...Gorky Park...Warrant...Michael Monroe...Autograph...I'm sure there was more..

Some worked better than others, and Tim would come out singing along, only to get tickle tackled by either Jeffie or Joe, occasionally Josh, and then he'd go back into hiding.

That's okay, I guess that just means I have to jot down an arsenal of Tim Lures to use during future visits!

Recap by The Metal Wulf

We were joined by three out of four members of Stone Soul Foundation on this evening, always cool to hang with these guys. They've got some local shows comin' up, one of them a mere week away at Hoopes Park in Auburn. That is also a FREE show, so if you're of a mind, and the weather isn't too crappy, you'd be doing yourself a favor by checking these guys out.

They'll also be at Bull's Run in Seneca Falls for a show that will feature both electric and acoustic performances, and you can catch that gig this Saturday night!

They also mentioned that they'd still like to do a video for their song, "Christian", and they're open for any ideas regarding that. Hit up their Facebook page if you have any suggestions!

Honestly, check them out. I can't remommend them highly enough. I know I say that a lot, but this is straight from the heart. They are a flat-out GREAT rock and roll band!

There was further discussion regarding possibilities of Josh leaving us for a teaching job outside the country. This time the job is in Spain, and he'll actually be travelling there in another week or so for the interview. If all goes well, and he accepts this job, we're just hoping he has a chance to come back and hang with us one more time before departing for a year. It would make for a Hell of an evening on the Onslaught as we gave him a going-away party he wouldn't soon forget.

No, really, I'm betting a lap dance from Jeffie would be pretty damned unforgettable...

Now, personally, I don't follow the Billboard charts all that closely, but I still find it relatively cool when a true metal band hits high. Case in point, Testament's latest (Dark Roots Of Earth) hit #12 on Billboard's Top 200. Now, like I said, I don't really follow them all that closely, but I'm pretty sure that's the hightest any Testament album has ever hit, and it just goes to show that there are a LOT of people out there who still love and support this music. Hell, I'm interested to see where it goes from here, potentially cracking the Top 10, maybe?

We had all (and I mean ALL) gathered at Suzy's in Auburn that previous Tuesday night to catch Banshee's free show, which was pretty damned killer. Just a shame the turn-out couldn't have been better. Still, Terry and the boys seemed pretty pleased to have an audience to play for, so I guess it was all good!

Sincerely, they're a great bunch of guys, and they shouldn't be missed if they come anywhere near you.

I'd mentioned something to Jeffie once again about being part frog, and he was pretty indignant when it came down to denying having any association with frogs. Yet Raven insisted that she combined his DNA with that of a frog when she cloned him the last time. I mean, the guy was eating MOTHS for cryin' out loud!

Yet, he seems to be in a very strong state of denial. He even stated that if he was part frog, he should be able to hop long distances. He proceeded to test this statement out by maneuvering my chair into the middle of the room and attempting to hop over me, with little to moderate success. And, as it frequently happens, Jeffie ended up on the wrong end of a beatdown from Joe, eventually getting tossed ass-first through a computer keyboard. The remains of which, I should stress, got used to pummel my forehead, almost resulting in flowing blood...

All in a night's work, what can I say...

Recap by The Metal Wulf

For starters, I'd like to thank Mercia for coming out and hanging with us for a couple of hours. We have a brief interview with them up for your perusal on the metalwulff YouTube page, so feel free to check it out!

So, how cool is it that Hate Machine gave us exclusive rights to play tracks from their latest disc before any other local radio station? Much gratitude to those guys for allowing us to do that, we were more than happy to play some of those tracks, and we'll be even happier when we all have copies of that disc in our hands!

Let's see, discussions from this edition of the show...hmmmm...

Well, we definitely had a blast recounting some bad-ass memories from our visit to Darien Lake last Wednesday. Seriously, this was a show that was so amazing that even BILL!!! had come out to hang long enough to help us talk about it!

Slipknot and Slayer headlined with openers Motorhead and Anthrax. Darien Lake didn't want to book the entire Mayhem Fest bill, so instead they got the best of the line-up for an evening of great music. Seriously, if you weren't there, you've no idea...the show was a CLASSIC! Every single band was at the top of their game, not a bad moment to be found, just one kick-ass performance after another.

Of course, if you were to twist our arms, I'm pretty sure that we'd have to say that Slayer stole the evening. Here's a band that never really worried about large stage productions, usually just content to turn up the volume and kick your ass all night, maybe throw in some cool lighting effects. Well, they upped their game, throwing their Marshall staciks into structures that were designed in the shape of inverted crosses and offering a TON of Hellish pyro throughout the set (seriously, flames, towering, EVERYWHERE!)

Still, in the end, it was the set list that made their show the best of the evening. Just one classic after another, not a lot of between song banter, just the best that they could pack into an hour-long set.

Yep, folks will be talkin' about that show for a loooong damned time!

Our resident Pixie was once again in attendance, making her presence known during our Mercia interview. Seems she had found Cthulhu and was fluttering about with him.

What, you don't think pixies come to the Onslaught to find Jesus, do you? That would just be silly...

There was continued ball-busting over the fact that while Rick, Bill, and Erica will potentially be taking in Soulfly on the 15th (and possibly getting an interview with Max Cavalera), I'll be at Journey, with Pat Benatar and Loverboy.

Yes, I know, it ain't metal, but the early 80's were a strange time for me. Kind of a developmental era, so to speak. I listened to a LOT of different things back then, still do. And yes, while I loved KISS, Sabbath, and Ozzy, I also didn't have any qualms about listening to slightly milder stuff.

Like Journey, Pat Benatar, or Loverboy.

Fact is, I never got to see ANY of them back in the 80's (that's kind of a trend for me, if you haven't noticed...), and the opportunity to see ALL THREE in the same night...well, just can't pass that up, too good to be true...

So, bust away, my Onslaught compatriots!

Let's see...really can't remember anything else, although we did have a fun time trying to get Serj Tankian's track, "Ching Chime", out of our heads. Joe actually mentioned that he wants me to be able to hit the notes on that, just like Serj, by Friday.

Yep, that's gonna happen...

So, our next installment should be seeing Stone Soul Foundation in the studio. It's been well over a year and a half since their last visit, so I'd say it's high time they brought us up to speed on any developments they have goin' on.

Personally, I'm lookin' forward to having 'em on again!

Recap by The Metal Wulf

This evening of Onslaught fun saw the return of Tim Binder to the show, as he is paying one of his semi-annual visits. For those who remember, Tim's music tastes are kind of all over the place, which gets him just a little bit of grief from others.

Kinda like someone else we know!

As a matter of fact, Tim and I both got to contribute to the annoyance of the rest of the crew as we broke out in a chorus of David Lee Roth's version of "Just A Gigolo". Yeah, you can guess how well that went over...

And then there was a discussion pitting late-80's Russian band Gorky Park against Kix. Hmmmm...which is worse, "Bang!" or "Don't Close Your Eyes"?

Don't matter, Tim and I sang snippets of both, while others were threatening violent happenings upon us...

There was also some discussion regarding our possible loss of Josh on the show. Yeah, Josh has had some job opportunities arise, with some potential employment outside the country. We're talking places like Russia or South Korea.

Now, from a cultural stand-point, I can see where either option could be an interesting pursuit, and it would only be for a year. Yet, at the same time, it just seems that there could be...well, safer options?

Hell, maybe we're just greedy and don't want to see Josh go. As much as we bust on him, we really would be sorry to see him leave the show. We all have our own little touches that we contribute, and our own little areas of specialized knowledge when it comes to this music, and losing Josh would definitely hurt.

With that being said, it was also discussed that if he IS leaving us, we may have to start planning a going away party for him, Metallic Onslaught-style!

Mwahahahahahahahaha...

No Jeffie this week, as it was mentioned that he'd been involved in some kind of accident on an ostrich farm.

Yeah, quite frankly, I just don't think I want to know...

Joe had asked me for a loan of $3, 295 so he could purchase a KISS pinball machine. We're talking vintage, here, straight from the 70's arcades. He even promised that he'd let me peek in through a window and turn the lights on long enough for me to see it...

Truth is, if I had that kind of cash to blow, that puppy would be making it's way into my bedroom.

Sorry, Joe...ain't happenin'...
