We'd discussed getting to see Howl and Lord Dying at The Bug Jar in Rochester the night before. Great show, with local support from Burndwiller and Order Of The Dead. All four band just freakin' killed it, definitely a good time!

We were also able to score an interview with all four members of Lord Dying.

 

David Henninger from Spater joined us for a couple of hours to bring us up to speed on what promises to be a very cool show in Lodi on October 26, at the Eagle Hotel. Spater will be hosting a Heavy Metal Halloween Bash (to be emceed by the Metallic Onslaught crew), an event that will be free AND open to all ages, and will feature some prize giveaways and, of course, costume judging!

(Amusing side note: It was mentioned that my costume would probably include my man-kini and possibly some of the Brony gear I used on No Pants Day. Don't worry about that happening...my costume for this year has been pretty much planned out since last Halloween, and will be both man-kini and Brony free, I assure you!)

The line-up, as it stands, will be Spater, Ire Clad, J.A.C.K., Thoughts In Reverse, Psychopath, and a Black Sabbath tribute band called Sabotage.

This show should be a blast, so mark your calendar NOW!

 

Tim Binder had joined us once again, actually just a night or two after he got to meet White Lion's Mike Tramp at a show...somewhere...hmmmm...oh well, doesn't matter who or where the show was, we promptly started busting Tim's balls regarding White Lion. 

Now, I've never heard White Lion's first album. I've heard that it's actually a really good, straight-forward hard rock/metal album. Sadly, my exposure to White Lion came around the time that "Wait" and "When The Children Cry" were on MTV...and I HATED them...almost as much as Bon Jovi...

(But not as much as Winger...as there are none so despised as Winger...)

So, yeah, there was some discussion back and forth, both for and against White Lion. It all seems pretty silly at this juncture...but silliness is one of those things that we're REALLY good at, so it all worked out for the better, I suppose.

Anyhoo, a further trip into the horrors that are in Tim's Ipod revealed not only White Lion, but bands such as Tyketto, Tuff, Tori Amos (Azkath promptly slapped me upside the head for being able to identify the song "Raspberry Swirl"...), 'Til Tuesday, and Thompson Twins...

Sigh...to each their own, I guess...

Fairly uneventful evening all told. David Henninger from Spater dropped by for more promotion of Finger Lakes Metal Fest. Yeah, time is flying, as of this writing the event is just a hair over two weeks away. Doesn't seem possible, but there ya have it!
Also on the Metal Fest end of things, we had Jesse Halstead, who will be singing for two bands at MetalFest this year. He'll be fronting his long-time band HorseFace, who will also be officially releasing their new CD ("Army Of Swine") that very day. He'll also be fronting Stygian, coming full circle from a year ago when that band asked him to be their vocalist following THAT Metal Fest.
Crazy how things happen, huh? Oh, and Stygian will have new music available, as well, to my understanding.

Azkath was also on hand, and proceeded to pummel me senseless when I'd admitted to liking The London Quireboys. Seems one of their songs had come up as a bullet on one of his Russian Roulette shows on The Last Exit For The Lost, and he had to rub it in my face....not to mention beat the snot out of me when I refused to denounce them...
Sorry, love that first album ("A Bit Of What You Fancy"), even 23 years after it's release. I've even done an edition of Randy's Rants talking about this whole debacle, so keep your eyes open on the ol' YouTube channel. I hope to have the latest clip up very soon.

 

Outside of that, the only really notable events occurred later in the evening. We've had a television in the Stupid Room for awhile, and Josh had been watching some basketball in between talk breaks. After it was all said and done, Eric from Ire Clad turned it to the Disney Channel...and subject us to an hour and a half of some of the lamest programming I've ever seen.
No beef against Disney, mind you. I mean, truth be told, if I had a choice, I'll always go with Warner Bros. and Looney Tunes over anything Walt ever concocted, but hey, it's still fun on occasion to take in some Disney animation.
But their other shows suck. Case in point, this thing that Eric was watching called "Good Luck Charlie"...god-awful...freakin' terrible...
Eric went on to describe to us his dream of recording an album of Demi Lovato covers, only giving it the extreme metal touch...you know, blast beats and such...and if that doesn't scare you, I'm pretty sure he mentioned an interest in doing something similar with the Lady GaGa catalog...
Utterly terrifying...

So, with all that being said, our next show will be No Pants Day. I think that pretty much says it all. Bunch of goofs running around in their boxers, maybe some ladies in their undies as well, you never know.
One thing that won't be making an appearance this year, though, is anything resembling a damned Bronie! Ain't happenin', not on my watch!

We had representation from three of the bands who will be playing at this year's edition of Finger Lakes Metal Fest. 

So not only did we have Dave and Terry from Spater on board, but we had all of the guys from Stone Soul Foundation on hand, as well. This was the first time we've seen them since late last summer, and they were kind enough to let us play a new track, which they will be making a video for, called "Taking Back The U.S." Looking forward to seeing it once it's ready to go! 

And, for the record, this will be their first ever appearance at Metal Fest, so if you've never seen them, get your asses to Donselaar's on May 18 and check them out. Well worth it!

Eric Rodriguez from Ire Clad was also on hand. Ire Clad is also appearing at Metal Fest for the first time, and they're another band that I personally can't recommend strongly enough. 

Eric was actually attempting to give away tickets to another show that they're playing, in this playing along with Polka Dot Cadaver and some other greats in Watkins Glen this Saturday night.

Needless to say, Eric demonstrated some...interesting...methods of motivating people to call. He actually suggested he'd have sex at the show with whoever called in for the tickets. 

Honestly, I probably shouldn't share some of the things that he was suggesting off the air...

I should also probably mention that Josh has learned to run away when people attempt to tickle him. This is a great step forward for him, to be honest, so I'm thinking in the future we may not be seeing quite as much of the "fainting goat" effect.

Time will tell!

Anyhoo, next show will feature members of both HorseFace and Stygian, and I'm pretty sure both sides are pretty pumped for this year's event! Tune in and check it out!

So, the main order of business on this evening was the announcement of the confirmed bands for this year's edition of Finger Lakes MetalFest. Spater's Dave Henninger was on hand, as always, to make the announcement, and here is the standing list of confirmed bands for the show:

Spater, Stone Soul Foundation, Lowkey, Steel Kingdom, Mercia, Poetry In Black, Abhor, Stygian, Cassidy Has Cholera, Dawn Of The Apocalypse, Concrete Slacks, Ire Clad, Disfigured Dead, HorseFace, Tonight We Feed, and Ripped Apart.

Two more bands are still to be announced, for a total of 18 bands as opposed to 20, but we're still looking at hours of awesome music on two stages, and it will be emceed by the Metallic Onslaught. Still going to be a blast, I guarantee it!

Moving along...

MetalFest isn't the only big event slowly approaching as we get closer to May. We're actually just a hair under three months away from No Pants Day. A brief discussion regarding that pretty much cemented the conclusion that this year it's going to be known as MORE Pants Day, at least as far as I'm concerned. 

Okay, I understand the concern. I pretty much have traumatized them for two years running. Don't believe me, I'll be happy to provide some YouTube links for ya. 

Still, it's not that big of a deal. I'm pretty sure I can sit this year out, I'll wear jeans if I have to, or just a pair of shorts. No boxers or man-kini's for me this year, I promise! 

Joe had returned to us from his vacation in Florida. I'm sure he was just thrilled to come back from a week of watching dolphins frolicking to temperatures in the single digits...

No Jeffie, though, which brought up the question of what did Joe do to him this time? I mean, Joe insists that there was no Jeffie on this trip, but then he said the same thing about New Orleans, before he admitted to pushing Jeffie into a gator-filled swamp.

Personally, I don't see where this is a problem. I'm actually picturing a fishing boat with a large chum bucket filled with Jeffie pieces, being used to bait sharks...

Confusion ensued when Seriah Azkath suddenly went on about his tongue burning. Turns out he'd popped a breath strip into his mouth, and it ended up on the tip of the tongue instead of the middle.

Of course, the tip is always more sensitive...

(Yeah, we had a HUGE laugh over that while we were off the air...)

Well, next thing you know, we were all trying breath strips, and oddly enough Azkath, Josh, and myself were experiencing some crazy, trippy side effects. Yeah, things got nuts, to say the least...

Then there was the crash. Yup, we came down pretty hard, headaches all around, craving more strips.

As a matter of fact, Azkath insisted that he didn't have any more, and had actually taken the very last three.

But during the final talk break, he ended up consuming four more!

Needless to say, I'd gone insane from withdrawal, and proceeded to pursue him throughout the studio, more or less out for blood if I couldn't get breath strips... 

And that was pretty much how the evening concluded!

So, the next installment looks like it's going to be just Rick and Joe, along with guests Sanjuro Fields. Hell of a band and a very cool bunch of guys, by the way. Be sure to tune in!

As for Azkath, Arydaea, Josh, and myself, we'll be in Rochester that night to see Doro Pesch at the Montage! I've waited a loooong damned time to see this lady play live, and I'm not missing it for the world!

This edition of The Metallic Onslaught fell on Friday the 13th, so of course it was fitting that Alice Cooper's "He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask)" was played. I actually believe it's become an Onslaught tradition over the years. Fact is, most of us honestly hate that song. Don't get me wrong, we LOVE Alice, just not crazy 'bout that particular tune... So, ironically enough, the big topic for the evening seemed to revolve around No Pants Day and my... ummmm... man-kini episode... Honestly, it was like everybody had Man-kini Madness, and people wouldn't shut up about it all night! I mean, here we are in conjunction with a telethon to help raise money for our parent station, WEOS, and they're talking about me removing a piece of clothing for each $5.00 donation! Ummmm, the idea here is to GAIN money in donations, not lose it! And for the record, if you wanted to be kind enough to make your own donation, just go on to weos.org for all the details! And then, while trying to promote next weeks' Finger Lakes Metal Fest, somebody had the bright idea that I should jump into one of the cages , in my man-kini, during Caged's set! You know, I have a feeling if they really wanted to do one for the ladies, they could find someone who wouldn't make them run screaming OUT of the building! So, for the record, I am stating, right now, that there are no immediate plans of me squeezing my butt into that thing again. That means no pimping myself out in the man-kini for cash donations, and definitely no man-kini moshing at Metal Fest. And DEFINITELY no Mosh n' Bowl in the man-kini! Not happening any time soon, sorry folks... Really, you'll be thanking me in the long run!

Enough about the man-kini, let's move right along, shall we? Further promoting Finger Lakes Metal Fest, we once again had Dave from Spater in the studio with us, along with Wayne Johnson, guitarist and vocalist for Caroline Blue, a solid Syracuse band with a good, old-school style. You can check them out right here on Facebook!  Seriously, the closer this gets, the more excited we are to be emceeing it. Your going to be hard pressed to find a better way to kick off the summer concert season, especially around here, where we just don't get metal like we used to... Let's see, what else was there of note... We played some new music from King Kobra and Warrant, and I've gotta say that between the two, I'm definitely more impressed with the King Kobra material. Of course, I knew that adding Paul Shortino to the line-up was only going to up their game in the long run. The guy sounds just as amazing now as he did in the 80's, while fronting Rough Cutt, and for a brief period, Quiet Riot. Not to say that the Warrant track was terrible. The new vocalist, Robert Mason, is damned good, I'd even go so far to say that I prefer him to Jani Lane, who isn't exactly a slouch. Of course, if you're a fan of the old-school 80's hair metal, you'll probably love both discs. For my part, I can't wait to get my hands on that King Kobra disc! Gotta bring this up, because it's actually not a terrible idea, when it all boils down. Somewhere along the line I brought up a conversation that Josh and I had been having during our weekly pilgrimage to Cold Stone Creamery. Josh and I have tossed around a few interesting ideas during my time on the show, among them bobble-heads and posable action figures. (Hey, who wouldn't want a Wulfie figure? It could happen!) Anyhoo, the idea of doing an Onslaught calendar came up, and the more I thought about it, the more that it sounded like a fun concept. It's not like we don't have a ton of photos in the archives that would be usable. I mean, obviously we don't want any man-kini (Shit, there it is again!) photos, but there are definitely some fun pics that could fit the bill. Hmmmmm...any takers? Before I wrap this up for this week, I've gotta express a little concern for Joe's sanity. I think our long-suffering host may have finally been pushed over the edge, because toward the end of the night he was acting a little strange. I'm pretty sure I heard him mention something about genital pizza and pepperoni nipples. This could bear some watching in the coming weeks... And, speaking of coming weeks, our next show is not only going to feature Dave from Spater once again, but also God Size Hate, as we do some last minute promotion for Finger Lakes Metal Fest. And on top of that, we're also getting a visit from New York State legends, THe Rods! Yeah, you read that right! Dave Feinstein, Carl Canedy, and Garry Bordonarro are going to be joining us NEXT WEEK!
Really, if I were any more pumped for next weekend, I'd be exploding right now! Can't get here soon enough.

So, as of this writing we are officially just 3 weeks away from Finger Lakes Metal Fest, and in the interest of further promotion we had both Compressed and Lowkey in the studio, as well as Dave and Terry from Spater. We'll be having more bands from the event on the show in a couple of weeks, with Caroline Blue scheduled join us next. No denying it, we're all pretty damned pumped about this show! Speaking of being pumped for shows, a few of us were excited for a grand total of about 24 hours when we heard that KISS was coming to the Event Center at Turning Stone Casino at the end of July. Of course, the excitement was short-lived when we heard the tickets STARTED at $95 and went upward, to $1150. Sorry, guys, no dice, not everybody has that kind of scratch, not even for the nose-bleed seats, I don't care how great of a show you put on. I mean, really, Ozzy was able to do a full round of Ozzfest shows for free, maybe KISS could take a lttle cue from him and REALLY give something back to their fans... Oddly enough, Joe seems to think that I'm somehow made of money, and will be purchasing KISS VIP packages for everybody on the Onslaught. You know, I've discovered that it's really not a good idea to upset delusional people. I figure I'm just gonna let this one slide, and maybe he'll forget all about it!

Speaking of delusional, Joe still seems to think that it was Loverboy I went to see a couple weeks back, when it was Tesla. Can't seem to convince him otherwise. He also seems to think that I dance with my cats while listening to Loverboy, and I made sure that everybody was aware that it's not Loverboy that's playing when I dance with my cats. Oh, come on, don't tell me you're never held onto your pets' front paws and danced with them... I think that covers the important points. Like I said, look for more promotion of Finger Lakes Metal Fest, and more bands featured on that show. Won't be next week, though, because the time is almost here. Yep, that one day of the year that, for obvious reasons, we all dread. Next week is our annual celebration of No Pants Day. For those of you who've followed the show, you have at least a vague idea of what to expect. For those new to the show, however... well, just consider yourself warned...
