Some History of the Show from an 2003 Interview. Joe interviewed by The Syndicate Radio Promotions

Year the show began: There was at least one hour of metal a day on WEOS starting in early 1984. Then it evolved to a metal show a night (except on Sunday) with various names. The Saturday show was called the Metallic Onslaught.

Founding host(s) and any lineage you have: In the early stages there were The Count/ The Master (Bob Essman) he had two shows with these two different names. Mark Vincent, Don weeks (Heavy Early) who had the Saturday Metallic Onslaught version and Ian Christe (who just wrote "Sound Of The Beast" and was like 13 at the time he was on the air). Then the Metallic Onslaught went to just Saturdays with Don Weeks from 1985 and co-host The Q (Craig Quackenbush) who came on from January 1987 to January 1990. That's when I stepped in and have been here ever since.

Current time slot: Friday nights from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Length of time you've been host: 13 years...  God, I'm old.

Approx. listener ship: 1000 radio and 150 Internet per week.

Regular features you run on the show: Right now there are a couple of regular features. "Blast From The Past", that's an old obscure song you may not have heard in years, "Segue Way Of The Night", we play a heavy crushing song, then a really terrible song, usually from the 80's and then kill it with another very heavy song. Then we just debuted "Metallic Onslaught Karaoke", we play something like Bon Jovi "Livin' On A Prayer" and sing over it.

What makes a long running show special: What makes this long running show special is two fold. Currently there are three co-hosts with me. Lance, who specializes in 80's hair and glam metal (and also owns everything ever released on some format). Rick, who is into the current scene of nu-metal and very active in the local scene, and finally Shoebox (who is a one-man band - Worm Quartet, www.wormquartet.com) who is all about the progressive and punk scenes. So between the four of us we pretty much have all styles of metal covered. The second fold of our success is how we changed with the times. Our talk breaks are something you either love or hate, no in between. They are laced with a lot of comedy and violence directed to a 4th co-host we have been trying to get rid of for a couple of years now, known as "Jeffie the Radio Guy". He is so annoying that we just can't help but beat him up every week on the air. It makes for a nice mix of chaos and music information.

A quote for jocks looking to replicate your success: All I can say is have as much fun as the FCC allows. Don't let your show get stale. I have a great working relationship with our station manager Michael Black who pretty much leaves us alone (but also tells us when we need to tone something down) and lets us just run with it. Not a lot of station managers will do that.
